Safety Partners with In Control ADT to Further Promote New Driver Safety
Despite 93% of Massachusetts's teenagers taking Drivers Education, high levels of
first year drivers (43%) - many of which are teens - have automobile collisions.
With approximately 47,000 teen crashes per year in Massachusetts, automobile accidents
still rank as the leading cause of death for teens. The majority of these fatal
accidents did not involve either alcohol or speeding.
To better serve our new drivers and their families, Safety Insurance is pleased to announce its partnership with In Control Advanced Driver Training (ADT).
The In Control Advanced Driver Training program was specifically created to address
the vital safety needs of new drivers by providing extreme hands-on scenarios where
new drivers can make supervised, controlled mistakes and learn the appropriate way
to respond to difficult driving conditions.
The course's instructors have professional driver experience and are able to give participants immediate feedback during and after in-class driving scenarios.
The format of In Control's ADT approach combines group discussions and classroom time in addition to the simulation experiences. It goes beyond traditional driver training classes and teaches participants how to avoid, react and respond skillfully to emergency situations. The program, which originated from a training program developed for state police, ambulance crews and fire truck drivers, was specifically adapted to meet the needs of less experienced drivers.
As a result of training, course participants learn to avoid, react, and respond
skillfully to difficult, unavoidable road situations. The program allows new drivers
to significantly improve their ability to recognize dangerous situations, understand
limitations and handle their vehicle in an emergency. Among the scenarios highlighted
are ways new drivers can effectively use ABS brakes, manage skid control, realize
the effects of speed on control, tell the dangers of tailgating, and understand
problems with backing up and making emergency lane changes.
The results of new drivers attending a 1/2 day Advanced Driver Training Clinic, provided by In Control, speak for themselves:
- Reduced crash probability from 43% to under 5%.
- Significant improvement in the ability to recognize dangerous situations and handle a vehicle in an emergency.
- The ability to do a panic stop, control a skid and perform an emergency lane change at real world speeds.
At Safety, our goal is to reduce potential loss of life, serious injuries, and property damage as much as possible. With In Control ADT, we are meeting that need head on.
Safety Insurance is offering our insureds a 10% discount off of In Control's Advanced Driver Training programming.
