Safety Insurance Celebrates First Anniversary of Safe Roads Alliance Platinum Sponsorship

Non-Profit Partnership is Integral Part of Safety's Campaign to Promote Safer Driving in Massachusetts

boston, mass. (July 9, 2008) - safety insurance group, inc. (Nasdaq: saft) today announced the first anniversary of its partnership with educational nonprofit safe roads alliance, and the results of the partnership to date. The alliance, established as part of safety's commitment to fostering safer driving in massachusetts, focuses on educating drivers of all ages, with an emphasis on helping teen drivers, for whom automobile crashes are the leading cause of death in the united states.

As part of this commitment, Safety Insurance works very closely with In Control Advanced Driver Training, a Massachusetts-certified driver skills development program, to help teens learn the advanced driving skills and emergency response maneuvering that decrease the number and severity of crashes.

In the past year, approximately 400 Massachusetts drivers have become members of Safe Roads Alliance, and over 4,000 have completed the advanced driver training course. Working together, Safe Roads Alliance and Safety Insurance have established relationships with local high school and college student groups including Boston University's PR Lab and the Rotary Club's Interact programs; created a video to explain the 3-Second Rule - a tailgating prevention rule of thumb, to teenagers; awarded a safe driving college scholarship; brought crash prevention courses to communities around the state; and taken its safe driving message to thousands of Commonwealth residents.

"Looking to the future, Safety Insurance and Safe Roads Alliance will continue to address the most pressing driving safety needs in our communities," said George Murphy, vice president of marketing for Safety Insurance. "Over 68,000 teens have died in car crashes in the last decade, so our programs help support our ongoing efforts to reduce these tragedies. Together we will continue our mission of making Massachusetts roads safer for everyone."

As part of the partnership, Safety Insurance subsidizes In Control's driver skills development program so Safety policyholders can participate in the half-day courses at In Control for only $75.00, more than a 70 percent discount off the normal $299.00 enrollment fee. In addition, drivers who complete In Control's course and become members of Safe Roads Alliance receive a five percent group discount on their automobile insurance from Safety Insurance.

"Our work with Safety Insurance has helped bring crucial messages and safe driving skills to communities throughout Massachusetts," said James Hayward, president, Safe Roads Alliance. "By supporting and encouraging their policyholders to take part in life-saving programs like crash prevention courses, Safety Insurance is increasing the safety of everyone on the Commonwealth's roads."
