Prevent Fraud

If You are in an Accident:
Fill out the accident forms completely and accurately. Get all necessary information from any other drivers and passengers. Report the name and address of every person in the other auto(s), including those who were not apparently injured. If you have a camera in your car, take snapshots at the scene.

If You Suspect Fraud:
If you have reason to believe that anyone involved in your motor vehicle accident or your insurance claim has committed fraud, call the Insurance Fraud Bureau Hotline at 1-800-32-FRAUD.

Prevent Body Shop Fraud:
If your car needs repairs, ask your Safety agent to provide a list of body shops. All shops on this list are registered with the Massachusetts Division of Standards. If you are not a Safety insured, you can contact the Division of Standards at (617) 727-3480 for a list of registered shops.

If You Have Information about an Auto Theft

Contact the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force Hotline at 1-800-HOT-AUTO (1-800-468-2886).

Seat Belts

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires the use of seat belts. All children must ride in safety seats until they are at least five years old and weigh over 40 pounds. Children who weigh over 40 pounds but are under five must ride in booster seats which are recommended for children five years of age or older who weigh 40 to 60 pounds. All other children must wear a properly adjusted safety belt.

Drivers can be fined $25 for each unrestrained child.

If you see someone driving with children who are not safely secured, call the Buckle-Up Hotline at 1-800-443-SAFE. No fine will be imposed, but information will be sent to the driver which explains the law.

Travel Outside of Massachusetts

If you travel outside of Massachusetts to another state or to Canada, take your insurance policy or proof of insurance with you. Your Safety agent can provide these forms.

Safety Inspection Sticker and Registration Plates

It is your responsibility to make sure that your safety inspection sticker and registration plates are current. If you do not renew on time, you may be fined and your insurance premium may be surcharged.
